Everyone knows that feeling they get when their alarm rings. While some days it may seem impossible to pull yourself out of bed, mornings are actually the perfect opportunity to set yourself up for a successful day. Next time you feel like hitting the snooze button, consider trying these simple tricks to get your day moving in the right direction with some morning motivation.

You may be surprised to find just how productive your days will become with just a little bit of morning motivation.

Unplug Yourself

Morning Motivation: Unplug

While it may seem like second nature to check your phone first thing in the morning, try to avoid this. Instead of checking emails and returning texts right when you wake up, unplug yourself. Try doing some simple stretches in the morning. You don’t need to be a super active person when it comes to being active in the morning. This is a great way to wake up not only your mind, but your body as well. Luckily for you, here’s a simple stretch you can do without leaving the bed.

Start by sitting on your knees and reach out in front of you with your body leaned forward and flat. This is commonly known as a “child’s pose” and it certainly doesn’t take an expert to do it. This will not only get your body ready for the day ahead of you but it is also a great way to get blood flowing and oxygen pumping. Once you are stretched and ready to roll out of bed, make your bed. Making your bed right after you get out of it is a great way to keep yourself from crawling back in it.

Make Breakfast Count

Morning Motivation: Breakfast

The phrase “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” has a double meaning. Not only is breakfast brain food, it’s also the perfect opportunity to create a plan for the day. Eating a well balanced breakfast that is full of whole foods is a perfect way to keep your brain active, so try to avoid foods that are heavy in oils and fats. Take the time to sit down and eat. There is such a thing as a “working breakfast”.

Eating your breakfast is a great time to start checking in with people and replying to emails. It’s also the perfect opportunity to write down goals for the day ahead of you. The trick to this is to write down 3 MITs or most important tasks. This allows you to curate a day that isn’t cluttered with unimportant to-dos. It allows you to focus in on 3 main things and get them done no matter what. Write them down with a pencil and paper. When you are able to see the goals laid out in front of you, you are more likely to be successful when it comes to executing them.

Center Yourself

Morning Motivation: Center

Finding time for yourself is an important part of being motivated in the morning. This is a short moment in your day when it’s okay to be a little selfish. Taking care of your mental and physical well-being is crucial to having a successful day. This is the time of day when you should do something that brings you joy. Whether you are an active person who loves to take a long run in the morning or someone who wants to cuddle on the couch with a pet; do it. Doing activities like this releases endorphins which will naturally heighten your mood and motivation throughout the day.

One great way to center yourself in the morning is to leave your work behind. You’ve already eaten and made a plan for the day, so just relax. If the weather is nice, get out and take a short walk. Try to let your busy day be the last thing on your mind. All of that work and stress will be there waiting for you, so don’t let it ruin your morning. If you’re really having a hard time trying to keep the stress away, try doing some simple breathing exercises. Controlled breathing is a great way to naturally calm your mind and body.

Get Ready

Morning Motivation: Ready

Embrace your morning. Shower and get dressed for the day ahead. People are at their most productive when they tackle the daily challenges in their lives head first. So treat every day like a challenge, and prepare for it. When you look put together and ready, other people will follow. By letting your motivation show through your appearance, you may actually be inspiring others to follow your lead. This is especially important if you work in a group environment. In this case, it is a great opportunity to lead by example.

Always double check. Make sure that everything is in order. There is nothing worse than having a perfect morning routine just to get to work and find that you have left something important at home. The extra few minutes that it takes to make sure all of your ducks are in a row is a lot simpler than the time wasted with regret.

The Day Is Yours

Like most routines in life, curating your morning motivation will take time. A big part in having a productive day is learning to forgive yourself if everything doesn’t go according to plan. Always remember that tomorrow is a new a day and with a new day comes a new opportunity to try again.  So make your mornings count, your days will thank you.  Good luck.
